The Knickerbocker Papers, Being Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Washington Irving
Phillip Lee Warner; Medici Society; Riccardi Press 1914
Binding: Hardback | Condition: Very Good |
Rather excellent fine leather custom binding of two of Irving's most beloved stories. Limited to a run of 1000 copies of which this is no. 184. Printed on hand-made paper. The stories, both related by Dietrich Knickerbocker, Irving's fictional historian, would first appear in his short story collection The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Bound in blue leather with gilt sun/moon device and stars both in gilt and blind-stamped, surely symbolizing the passage of time and Rip Van Winkle's lost 20 years. Top edge gilt. 8vo. (215x145mm) [vii] 53pp. Spine is toned with some light rubbing. Rubbing to leather on top and bottom edge. Some light toning/discoloration to leather covers. Contents clean and prim, binding tight. Very good overall.
