Limited edition leather facsimile of William Morris' handwritten, decorated manuscript of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Produced in 1873 the design was conceived of by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones and painted by Charles Fairfax Murray. The Manuscript was bound in leather and presented to Burne-Jones' wife, Georgiana, who later donated it to the British Library. This facsimile is bound in imitation of the original, with elaborate floral gilt decoration to covers. gilt raised decoration within. Complete with slipcase and facsimile of a letter written by Burne-Jones describing the manuscript. Limited to 850 copies of which this is number 692. 12mo. (170x120mm) Some rubbing to slipcase. Very mild toning to end-paper pastedowns. Otherwise crisp and clean. A striking example. Near fine.
