Includes his 1748 text 'The History and Antiquities of Colchester' in an updated form. 'Compiled from the best and most ancient historians', With fold out maps and engravings of notable estates and castles (some folding), plus plates of coins, The Roman camp and the tessellated pavement. Recent quarter cloth binding, with raised bands giving a leather-like effect, leather labels. Folio (360 x 230 mm) [xxviii] 195 (+28 appendix), + 519 + 646pp. Of the 9 maps and 24 plates this set lacks only Hedingham Castle and the scarce Audley End engraving (which is only called for in volume two, being added later). A couple of closed tears to folding plates. Very occasional foxing within. Tiny instance of worming to front matter of vol. I. Contents otherwise clean and binding tight. A stout set.
