The first volume in the section on the fishes of Guiana, based upon the expeditions of the author himself, including a short biography of Schomnurgk. Complete with 34 plates (one a double page spread), including engraved title and a fronstiportrait of the author. 32 engravings are delicately hand-coloured in a naturalistic fashion, With further b/w illustrations within the text. Handsomely rebound in half leather with marbled boards, raised bands and gilt decoration to spine. Some rubbing to leather labels on spine. Some foxing to front matter and mild tanning within. Else clean and tight. Very good.
