Handsome leather binding of Craik's 1830 account of New Zealand and its peoples and cultures that appeared in the Entertaining Library of Knowledge series. Notable for its descriptions of the Maori people, in particular Te Pehi Kupe (Tupai Cupa), which would inspire Herman Melville's character Queeqeg in Moby Dick. Half leather binding with marbled boards. With 46 b/w illustrations within the text. 12mo. Some tanning to page edges and offsetting from some illustrations. Otherwise clean and tight. Very good.
